25 cal Stevens Project

After much thinking I and imputes form this group I have decided to build my 25 cal project Stevens into a 25 Copperhead Rimmed.

Australia has a history with the 222R and given that we have approx 170 species of snakes (100 of which are poisonous) I thought I might change the name to reflect a local. Investigation showed that we have a poisonous snake called a Lowland Copperhead. Strangely enough it is the only poisonous snake to live above the snow line so assume it a bit of Ozzie humour to call it a "Lowland" snake.

So here are a couple of pics to show the start of the project. A few rifle bits and a dummy .25 Lowland Copperhead made from some 5.6 x 50R. Yes, it has a jacket projectile but the rifle will be used for breach seated cast.

I like it! But then, I like quirky things. Cool

I assume that's a 44½ action?

P.S. 100 species of poisonous snakes!!!??? Shocked I'm afraid to ask about the spiders, then there's all those potentially deadly critters in the oceans around Oz!

If it's the one on the left it appears to be similar to the 25-35.

In miniature, yes. About 44mm vs 52mm in length and .376 vs .422 at the base.

Just curious?  Is it easier to source or cheaper to buy the 5.6x50R brass to form your new .222R based wildcat round than to neck up regular .222R brass?  Is .222R brass more expensive or tougher to get down there than the 5.6x50R brass or do you just have a large supply of it already on hand?

I may have passed my "Best Before" date, but I haven't quite reached my "Expiry" date yet ...

Rev, I can source 222R brass however the quality is not that great. I do have a reasonable supply of quality RWS brass (couple of hundred) and have just found a supply of new Sellier & Bellot brass. Plus the 5.6 doubles as a basic brass for the 32 Miller Short (s) that I have.
