special scope mounts?

Can you offer a recommendation for an internal adjusted scope, to be removed and remounted easily like the external scopes can?
Here is what I want to do, and not do!

I do not want to invest in another scope.
I do want to use one of the idle modern scopes I have for a bench rifle.
I want to be able to remove it quickly for an iron sight match and then quickly add the scope for a scope match. Like we do with external scopes.

The common twist on Redfield style mount would not be what I am looking for. Removing them too often wears them out.

Do you plan on using the same external mount bases with the same external mount base spacing?

Okay, if we are on the same page .... I guess I would D&T the new bases where ever they needed to be.  Does that answer your question?

I may not have been very clear. For sure, I am having trouble wording the question clearly. writers block Roll Eyes

Okay BP. I reread your reply.

So, I am trying to use the same rifle to shoot a few targets using iron sights and then install a modern scope and shoot a few more targets.

Think a day of bench shooting with a Iron Sight stage and a scope stage.

So, if your barrel has not already been drilled and tapped for use with one of the old external adjustable scopes like a Lyman TargetSpot, and you're wanting to use one of the internal adjustable scopes you already possess, you're probably going to have to let us know what rifle you're using and what scopes you already have to use on it.
One other thing... is your barrel a factory barrel having a factory standard profile and dimensions, or ...

For what it's worth, I have an octagon barrel that has a Weaver base on the barrel and using old Weaver rings that have been on and off several times, the zero has been pretty well maintained. I don't know if it'd stand up to taking on and off every trip to the range, but in many years of use I don't remember any big change in the thing after trips to the 'smith for such as recrown and whatnot that the scope remained here at home.
It ain't pretty, but it works.

I used a one piece Weaver base and Weaver mounts on a 22 for many years back and forth from scope to irons and it held its zero.

Yup, Weaver mounts! I knew if I asked, I would have the answer in short order!

I don't know why I was not able to remember that one.  In my dim shadow of a memory, I know there was something else, a better option to the Redfield type.

Thank you!   I will check it out. That should save me some $$$ and allow me to do some scope shooting with out investing in a used Lyman Target spot or the like just for this one barrel.

Weaver rings work. But I ussually use long unertl style blocks and Burris signature 22/airgun rings. I’m sure Steve Earle (and others) can make a one piece rail that will allow you to use a unertl or a modern scope as I have mentioned. On heavy recoil guns I use a scope stop for added assurance this also lets me repeat my eye relief/ position perfectly. Seems to work for us.

Both Warne and Millett make some higher quality rings to fit Weaver style bases that will zero well. I've used both and prefer them over the Weaver rings myself.

I make a one piece rail, with a Weaver top. The Weaver top, has two positions, for eye relief.

Many on this forum use them.

Frank,
Can you mention again what you charge for these
"unertl" type to Weaver type scope rail adapters?
