#2 Ballard .32 Sport Chamber Questions

I found a #2 Ballard that I'm interested in.  It has the reversible firing pin.  I was shooting photos of the rifle and got this image of the chamber.  It looks like some dink has dry fired the rifle and pinged both the top and bottom of the chamber.  I haven't tried to pull the pin yet but how did it dent the top and the bottom of the chamber?  See the dents in the yellow circles.

These are factory dings, the top one is the firing pin contact, the bottom one is a relief to prevent the pin from dragging.  Ledball

A Ballard will break the firing pin tip if it does not have the bottom notch.
Ask how I know.

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

I don't have the top ding on any of mine. I believe the top ding was created by a poorly built replacement firing pin. The factory reversible pins wont ding the top edge of the chamber recess.

My No. 2 looks the same as the photo, although the upper recess looks nicely machined to keep from damaging the firing pin surface in the RF position.

Just ran down to my gun room to look at a #2 chamber. First one I grabbed is my #2 in .44 Long RF/CF. So here's a picture of that chamber:

Yes! But it's tough to plant them and often I don't get more than a couple for each one I plant! Wink
These are all #2 Ballards in various calibers and special order features:
