Firing pin shape, protrusion for 22RF

What do you like for a firing pin shape and protrusion for 22RF?   I'm starting from scratch, here, and am thinking a rounded wedge shape with about 0.025" protrusion.   Is that close to a good way to go?

Tool steel; round if application permits; sized to fit the hole; flat face w radius corners; length, fully retracted, flush with breach block/bolt face; full extension, just short of contact w barrel on empty chamber; .040 +/-

EXACTLY.

.025" protrusion will not be enough.

sometimes the shape of the firing pin for a 22LR is directly proportional to the hammer blow. If you have a light strike then you will need a narrow firing pin tip, a heavy blow and you can use a round tip about 1/8" diameter. I usually try for .035" protrusion. The rim on a 22 is .043" thick so even .020" would most likely set off a cartridge.

Wow, we ask for advice and we get it from experience plus the rationale behind the advice.
John, Thank you.

Many Thanks from me also John. I'm just about ready to start on a 22RF Ballard project and this information couldn't have come along at a better time.

With a heavier hammer spring in my CPA I indent the rimfire edge quite aggressively but without cracking it or rupturing it.

Question is when is there too much protrusion?

Does a sharper and quicker ignition of a rimfire affect accuracy?

Have not tested it off the bench since I use it for offhand practice.
