What do I have - Ballard Springs?
Oct 8th, 2017 at 8:14pm
Print Post
I picked up a quantity of these.  They were advertised as Marlin Ballard springs.  Definitely not what my Ballard uses.   Way too ling for one thing.  Could be useful to make other springs out of such as High Wall knock off springs.  Any idea what they were designed for?
Thanks

Jack

Looks sort of like a Stevens 44 spring.

Depending on the size they look like early Stevens Favorite or 44 springs.

That was my next plan.  I have a 44 and 1894  and 1915 Favorites.   Still laid up from knee replacement so I can't sit in my shop for long.  I will check the favorites tomorrow.

Thanks

Yep, looks just like my Stevens 44 hammer spring.

On the Wolff web site, #93 is shown as part of a kit of five springs advertised for H&R and suchlike revolvers.  If they actually fit Stevens 44’s and work, I would be glad to hear about it.

The several packages I have are numbered 91 to 95.  A couple have no legible number left. Only 91 seems to be physically different being not quite so wide but a hair thicker.
I saw their site after I posted. I will have to dig deeper.
I will keep you posted.

Bob.  You know where I can find some H&R revolvers? 😀

No, but they will be a dime a dozen when you find them  Grin  I would test fit the Stevens first  Cool  If they don't fit, you will already have the rifle and can look for spare springs  Shocked

Well the revolver theory seems to be the best.  here is a comparison with a Stevens 44 sprint (top) vs my spring.
Might be able to be made to fit, but less springy than the original.

Looking at some schematics for a H&R 1906 /1908 it looks to be the correct spring for those.  All is not lost as Numrich Arms lists these springs as being out of stock.  I think I will send then it and see what I can get for them.

Looks good Joe.  Do you keep the rubber band on it for a fail safe?

A friend sent some parts to Numrich, he said the check he got almost paid for the shipping.
