Helm Set Trigger Problem

I have a highwall that I put Cody Ballard Helm set triggers in and everything works fine with the original lever spring but when I fit a replacement lever spring, the hammer will not cock with the thumb.  It will cock if I cycle the action with the lever and for the life of me, cannot figure out why it won't stay cocked when thumbing it back!  There is a little difference in the arch of the two springs and also the angle of the little notch at the end of the spring.  Before I start removing metal from the replacement spring, I thought I would ask if any of you may have run into problems like this and would know the fix?  Thanks.  Bob

Hi- Are you saying that the flat spring seems too strong to cock the hammer back with your thumb and that maybe the extra force that your lever provides will cock it back? If what I said is your situation you may have to thin-out the pad at the end of the spring as there may be too much interference here with the hammer. Just my opinion without more information on your situation.

Set the trigger first and see if the hammer stays at full cock. If so, you are on the right track.  The knockoff spring is likely holding the sear back.

Well, I have it figured out.  The length of the new spring from the inside of the hole in the tail to the tip of the spring was about .008" longer than the original. I ground it down and rounded the tip and now it works just fine.  Go figure.  There must have been some kind of interference with the front of the hammer tail to where it contacts the spring. Bob
