Information Needed On Breech Seater
May 26th, 2016 at 11:18am
Print Post
I picked up this quality breech seater at a local show some months back. Obviously it has been separated from some shooters 32-40 kit.  It does not fit any action currently in my inventory. Does anyone have any idea on what it may fit and possibly who made it? I suppose it could be modified to fit something else which is why I bought it in the first place but it may also be the start of another project?

Thanks for any info.

If you can tell me the distance from the back of the lug that goes in the BB mortise to the base of the dummy cartridge, I may be able to tell you what it is for. My first guess would be Winchester or maybe Ruger.

It is interesting in that the rim of the case is no longer present and it appears to be soldered on when expanding the picture. I am curious in regards to how much mechanical advantage it might have by design and overall a very unique seater. It also appears that it would be fairly simple to modify to fit just about any action.

Quarter_Bore: Here are a few more photos to give an idea of dimensions. It appears to me that it cams on the block instead of the block mortice as currently done. Maybe for a rocking action? Confused.

J Louis:

If I cannot figure this one out, I will modify into something I can use. You are correct in it being pretty easy to adapt. Very straightforward. I would first like to know what it may fit so someone who may need one could use it before it gets changed. Just thinking of originality.

Maybe hook into sight block or scope block? Maybe a slot cut into the breech block itself?
I am on the road for a few days and will check website when I return. Thanks all:

rear of barrel to rear of mortise on my...

C. Sharps High Wall = .74"
Ruger No. 3           = 1.120"

Perhaps it has been reassembled with the lug piece reversed. If the lug piece was turned around, the case base to rear of lug dimension would increase.

It will be interesting to see what it fits if the puzzle is solved.

Is the distance from cartridge base to rear of lug not adjustable with the screw mechanism? Seems like a universal fit tool, unless I'm misunderstanding?

Different design with some good features and would probably work.
Interesting that the operating handle is at about 90° with the bullet push rod retracted.
Most tools have the handle closer to parallel forward when retracted and about 90° when the push rod is extended to reduce twist on the tool.
Would certainly have adequate mechanical advantage the last quarter inch or so.

plus the lug and handle are 180 degree to each other may be hard to insert and engage lug and clear handle?

Thanks all for the ideas and thoughts. It appears the locking arm can be rotated just by loosening the lock nut in front but I have not tried it as of yet. Still trying to solve the puzzle.
