Can't just add it at the border these days?

They want all rifles and ammunition listed explicitly on th BATF forms.  The approvals seem to be very fast so it's probably not a big deal to re-apply a couple of weeks before the match.

I would sell it to someone who would appreciate it for what it is and use it. Then I would take the $$$ and get exactly what I wanted.

I have given that some thought.  When I think of selling it, for some reason it seems difficult to pry out of the safe Smiley

Glad to see you are coming.  I had better work up a better BP load for my 38-55.

With that one prob would leave it alone, but it's your rifle! To me if you're a Schuetzen shooter, part of the "tradition" is modification. Let the he flames flow! 😛

Jack I need to start working with mine too.  At present I'm spending 100% of my time with my long range rifle getting ready for a big match in Phoenix next month.  I was planning on doing a 50-50 split wih that rifle and my CPA, but I have pretty much run out of cast bullets for that rifle.  I think I have 50 or so left and won't get back to the casting shack until the end of March probably.

John, it is interesting thinking about changing these old rifles.  I'm sure that the original owners would have had no issues rebarreling a rifle.  Now, with MVA making new actions I'd go that route if building a new rifle.  I actually have a shiny new DST Meacham action with a scroll lever that I bought from a kind member here Smiley.

Chris, time to get weird nerdy. Do the 35 Rem rimmed on the Meacham action.

Out of bullets? Can't cast till March? must be working or in the military.

Have you shot LR or Sil with your hiwall?

I'm a bit nerdy by default Joe.  For the Meacham action I was thinking of a reproduction of a late model Winchester schuetzen.  But I've blown the rifle budget already this year Smiley

I haven't shot silhouette or anything except a few offhand matches with that rifle.  For silhouette and midrange I am currently shooting a Shiloh in .40-65, and for long range a custom C. Sharps highwall in .45-90.

I like to have at least one, or two, or three rifles for each kind of shooting.  For schuetzen I haven't made up my mind 100% yet.  Not enough experience, but my tastes run toward CPA rifles and high walls.

When I bought this Winchester I figured it'd be just the thing for these black powder offhand matches.  It didn't feel right to use a rifle with a hooked buttplate as no one else there does.  The crescent seems like a good compromise.  But now I have an even more appropriate rifle in .32-40 for those matches Smiley

Joe, does anyone hold the NRC matches in western America anymore?  The ones that SPG used to write about?

Oh, about the casting.  My wife and I have an accord Smiley.  I do my casting at the cabin and she stays happy.  i usually do my last run of casting in the fall and early winter before the real cold sets in.

I miscalculated about my supply of .38 cal bullets this year and have maybe a hundred or so of the Hoch tapered bullets and maybe 50 or so of a Buffalo Arms tapered bullet that my CPA seems to really like.

My plan is to shoot up the .38's and then quickly drive to the cabin, snowshoe to my casting shack, and then make up a few hundred more so I can go to Tacoma.

Not allowed to cast bullets in your own town?  Wow!  I think the accord favors your spouse. I have a friend who has a cabin in his back yard. Has it made.

NRC?  Look at the WSU forum once in a while. Seems to be very dead. Have heard rumors someone will be putting on matches at Cody again.  Don't know who or what type of matches.

Chris, Beware of the man with only one rifle.  He likely knows how to use it  Grin  Cheesy

There is probably some sense to that Smiley

I have several that I haven't figured out yet.  I used to shoot a rifle until I had it sorted out and then I'd put it away and start again with the next one.  Nowadays I'm much more likely to put it away and shoot the few that shoot best.

Joe I don't mind going to the cabin to cast.  It's very peaceful and we have a gun club with a good 200 yard range.  I'm almost always the only one there.  Well except for the bears.  Plus I can go fishing right off the front of the property.  Makes me wonder why I'm still in town Smiley

Spend a few more days casting and come to Spokane in May.  9 shooting days over the span of 10 days.   I am bringing 700 or so 32 cal bullets for my High Wall and Ballard, 100 + 25 cal and a bunch of .22.

Nicely off the grid too.  No signal.  Well maybe if you wander over close to Tommy's house and hold your phone up high.  No temptation to check my work emails until I drive in to town.
