Introductory 22?

Print Post
Hello Folks,
My sister in law wants to get my brother in law a 22 single shot for Christmas so he can come out and shoot with me and the schutzen group. I do not foresee him taking it too seriously. Just something he would do every so often. What are your thoughts on the Uberti Rolling Block and then putting a peep site on it?
What have been your experiences with this rifle?
Thanks,
Scott

The response here and my research tells me to steer clear Smiley
Perhaps someone has an 1885 in good shape for sale. Looks like I'll be posting in the classifieds  Wink

While strictly a target rifle, the BSA-Martini would be a fine choice. There was one listed here in the classifieds and there is one on Gunbroker now for <$800 with sights.

The only upside I can think of with the Uberti roller is that it is small enough that carrying it plinking/hunting is much easier than a dedicated target rifle.

I have an Original 1885 Winchester Highwall Winder Musket.  .22 Long rifle.  British proof marks and lined by Parker-Hale, which have a reputation for being excellent.  Muzzle marked:  Rifled by Alf J Parker.  Some case color, some bluing, no rust, no cracks in wood.  Asking $1350 + shipping.  Will be away til Mon, with limited internet access. Email petro_08332@yahoo.com for pics, etc. I'm having trouble posting them.

Check with Steve Rhoades at Arizona Sharpshooters. There may be some .22BPCR silhouette matches to shoot in the Phoenix area as well as Schuetzen and other disciplines.

Will check in with Steve. At Ben Avery our group has smallbore Schuetzen matches and I just started putting them on monthly at Phoenix Rod and Gun  Wink

.

IMO, a beginner might have some trouble with a heavy/formal target rifle.

Although YMMV, I like the idea of one of those casual/boy's rifles - like a T/C HotShot, a newer Stevens Favorite, or possibly a petite Martini Model 12 or #4 Remington rolling block.
