I am looking for a good starting place for breech seat loading a .40/70 using 4227 powder and a 300 grain .40 cal slug from an RCBS mold.

Thanks, Dave Hammond

Should be close to the .405 win.

Hi Dave,

I'm using 20 gains with a 350gr bullet breach seated in my .40-50 Sharps straight.

I also shoot a 300gr bullet. 17 grains 4227 seemed to work well.

Thank you guys for the information. I will give the 17gr of 4227 a try.
