I just purchased a bunch of guns in parts from a local estate.I found enough parts in the lot to reassembly a Winchester Low wall. The gun is in rough shape it is 25 rimfire with a 1/2 round 1/2 octagon #1 barrel. The gun serial number is 9494 it has a Original tang sight and flip type post and ring front sight. The action is not too bad but the bore is shot and there is pitting on the first 6" of the round part of the barrel. The wood is in very good condition.Would it be possiable to convert this to centerfire? if not how about 22 Mag.Thank You Jay Parisi
This is my 1st post and when I figure out how to add pics I wil do so.

Requires only a change of the link to reposition the breechblock so that the firing pin will hit a centerfire cartridge.

Changing the link won't move the firing pin far enough to go from rimfire to centerfire.
To change a RF block to CF I usually put a bushing in the breech face and drill the new centerfire firing pin hole using the existing firing pin hole as a guide. The firing pin itself can either be modified or replaced.
If the gun is now a .25 rimfire, it will probably work fine as is for a .22 especially a magnum.

There is a youtube video by Larry Potterfield of Midway USA that shows how to do this.  I don't have the link but you should be able to search for it.  It requires making a new link as well as repositioning the firing pin.  Any good gunsmith would be able to do it.

What Steve Durren says. Changing the link and the position of the breechblock will affect the timing of the retraction of the hammer on opening the action as well as the operation of the extractor and the position of the hammer on the firing pin. The fit of the breechblock in the action will also be changed as the face is angled and raising it will possibly require facing the barrel to allow the breechblock to move the required distance.

The easiest and simplest approach is to bush the breechblock and modify or replace the firing pin.

Interesting choice of authorities here. Grin Cheesy Shocked Huh

Given a choice of gunsmiths to take advice from, my vote is 100% Steve Durren, Larry Potterfield won't come in even a very distant second.  Especially in his "make everything simple, leave out all the real steps" videos.

I'd use it as is, reline it to .22 mag as you want and have an easy, affordable shooter.  Or, pay someone who really knows what they are doing convert it to Centerfire the correct way.

You might consider using Steve as the gunsmith, his work is excellent, and he's honest and dependable.  Hard to find all of those three qualities together in one high quality package.

Another gunsmith recommendation for a reline is John Taylor who posts here.  His reline work is some of the best in the business, and he is also honest and dependable.

Two of the best single shot gunsmiths in the business.

There's some good advice in the previous posts, and good reasons why WRA did NOT use different lengths of links to reposition the block and firing pin.

There are three kinds of men: The ones that learn by reading, the few who learn by observation, and the rest who have to pee on the electric fence and find out for themselves.

The link length lesson (hard to say while drinking) works well with a Hopkins & Allen but it is a drop block, not leaning block - unless it is worn out.  32 RF to CF that is.
