Are the scope rings in alignment?  Will the adjustments move w/o the rings?

I don't think they are repairable. Asian way is sell 100 ship 110 to cover the returns due to defects. Rarely do Asian goods suppliers stock parts or have qualified service personnel due to the normal throw away defective trade practices

This applies to everything the Chinese make, this from someone in the China trade for some time.

Now you could take it apart and see why it's sticking and might get it back together properly.

40yr old Tasco was likely made in Japan. If so, were decent scopes. Getting repaired is questionable. Good luck with it.

I suggest you contact Tasco and see if they can help you. Your only cost is a phone call. If that doesn't work, there are scope repair shops around, you can e-mail them to see if they can help. Tasco has a lifetime warranty on many of their products, and although I have had some bad luck with some Tasco products, I have an old Tasco spotting scope that is great and some scopes that were very good. You have nothing to lose at this point except a small investment in time. I hope you find a way to get it fixed!  Joe S.

If yoiu can get it going yourself, here is where to send it. I think they charge $45 for any repair.

They took on Tasco's service, by contract, when they sold out to China.

Close up, in focus pictures might help. Dry/hardened oil?
