Ken,

Thanks for replying and setting the record straight on the BRC barrels. A friend got one of the very early ones and it was just over .319 so that's what I was going by.

I called Douglas this morning and asked about the 32 barrel dimension.

The official number that I was quoted is, .312 bore x .320 groove. I ask how long it's been that way and was told that he didn't know, I ask if it's more that 5 years and was told yes. He couldn't say when it changed. The last barrel I bought would have been in the early 90's so, there a large gap on when it might have changed.

I like Douglas barrels a lot and have used them since I started in 1985. I'm in no way putting them down!!! They are accurate but, you have to have a "proper" size bullet (for Douglas, I'll call it .321 for the base band) to get the best accuracy. I think .322 might work but .323 would swage to much lead.

Just to add to the mix:  I have several old J. Stevens A & T Co barrels marked ".32 Long" that measure between .304" and .309" Groove diameters.
These are for Stevens "Favorite" and Stevens "Model 44" actions.

So it seems around 1886 to 1920 Stevens was producing 'Tight Accurate Shooting' Barrels.  The .32 Long RF cartridge seems to have been produced with a Heeled bullet of around .311" to .315" Driving Band diameter and of relatively Soft Lead outside lubed designs.

Best Regards,
