Winchester/Ballard Front sight inserts

I'm looking for a source for front sight inserts for old Winchester/Ballard front globe sights. The older ones take a thicker insert. Bought a card of inserts from MVA-the shape is correct, but the MVA inserts measure 0.11 thick. The insert in the old sights measures 0.46.

1++ on Distant Thunder (O'Hare Tool, Inc.)  Jim is cutting a set for my original Ballard A-1 Mid-Range.  Few years back he made a set for an original Remington rolling block Mid-Range..an early one with the little pin that matches up with hole in sight base..had to ship samples back and forth a few times before one fit...but he did a beautiful job.

I didn't know that Distant Thunder would make them to fit the originals with much thicker inserts.

A note to the original poster.  I have a few original 1885's and it seems that they each have a slightly different insert thickness!   I have a Meacham highwall.  I don't know who made the front sights, but the inserts are thick like the originals.

Chris.

When I was speaking to Jim (Distant Thunder), I mentioned the thickness of that original Ballard insert..he said it didn't matter..they had a good assortment of various thickness of stock..and if they needed something special..they could always surface grind to size.
