Low Wall Breech Block Issues

Can these breech blocks be saved?

#1.  Appears to have been in a fire.  Firing pin and retaining screw fused in the block.

#2.  At some point in time the firing pin retaining screw was crudely drilled out.  No threads remain.

All comments/suggestions/ideas  appreciated.

I think both can be salaged:

#1, getting the firing pin out w/o damaging the block, won't be easy but, it should be annealed now and easy to machine. It can be CCH after.

#2, It sounds saveable, too but, you'll have to juggle hole and thread size and maybe make a threaded or press in bushing to fix it.

I'd start by soaking it a few days in a 50/50 mix of acetone and automatic transmission fluid.  You have to shake the mix occasionally as it wants to separate.  It is the best thing I've found for loosening frozen parts.  If that doesn't work, try heating the block to 2-300 degrees and tapping on the firing pin.

Take it to John Taylor Machine in Puyallup and pick it up when he tells you he is finished.

Excellent idea, considering how close they are!
