Maynard Tape Primers - Photo

At the beginning of the Maynard patented tape primer system, the Massachusetts Arms Company was selected to be the contractor to manufacture and distribute the replaceable fulminate tapes.

The tapes were packaged in a round tin plated/lacquered can with a removable press on lid to seal the can.  Each can contained ten rolls of 50 primers per roll or primers for 500 shots.

This is a photo of an original container ---

Heck, that's almost as expensive as what the scalpers are getting for modern primers!  Cheesy

Ron -- There is precious little artifacts remaining from the Maynard Arms Company and its contractor, the Massachusetts Arms Company, and I for one, among others, have devoted time and effort towards preserving and cataloging original and verifiable information and data for the purpose of expanding and complementing the existing historical record at the National level.

This endeavor is beyond the scope of interest of a P.T. Barnum enterprise.

Addendum:

I find it interesting that 25 years past the end of the American Civil War the Maynard Arms Company continued to offer their replaceable rolled paper tape for ignition in their patented percussion system.

The Maynard catalog published in 1890 confirms what I am saying.
