varies.
Should be .454" but may be anything between .452" and .457". .454" is a good start.

old diameter was .454, newer ones all use .452 so it depends on the pistols age and Mr Boulton is correct

You are asking for bore diameter, not groove diameter, right?

A friend at the range gave a couple of lead 20to 1 mix and they measured out to .452 and with a little help with a raw hide hammer with a little thump they slid into the bore real sweet. The  bore measured .452. Thanks to all Hank45

For my pistols I size to .452 for my Ruger Blawkhawk and S&W 25-5 (gas checked/hard cast 250 gr from Lyman 452490 mold) 

But my Winchester 94AE prefers that same bullet sized to .454, cast softer and bit heavier from the same mold ... (still trying to experiment on it whenever I can)
