Not me!!! Especially for a 10X. But, I also wouldn't come even close to paying $1500 - $2000 for a 1" Unertl, no matter if it was a like new 36X

Nothing against the scopes, at all but, I just think they are over priced, in general. I can't see the 3/4" scopes being any better than a STS. I'd love to buy low and sell high on them though  Tongue

Looks like a 1 1/4 Unertl.  Good scopes. I managed a 250 with one last year at Tommy's using mine.

I already have one, so no I wouldn't pay 900.00 for one. But now if it had a extra eye piece.................  Huh

I live in Canada where the prices for everything is higher.  I have two Unertl scopes, one 18x, and one 20x.  They are in good but not exellent condition.  One cost me $800 and one $750.  Those seem to be average prices up here.

Amen.  Unertl has somehow acquired a mystique that elevates it FAR above makes of equal quality, such as Fecker & Lyman, at least in the eyes of those with limited experience.

But I once profited from this mystique myself, by selling a Unertl to a fellow in Germany, who, in addition to the selling price, had to pay high shipping costs & a huge import duty.

I don't know if I'd pay $900 for a scope.  But I would tell myself 2 things before making that decision.

The first, it is only money.

The next, I'm going to be dead a very long time.

These 2 things seem to help me decide if I really want something.  Frank M.

Well said Frank!

I would also add;

How bad do I want it and will it make me happy once obtained.

Gentleman, it is all relevant. I paid a hundred dollars for a ten power Unertl twenty years ago. I have bought them for less. How much is that hundred worth today. Inflation is killing us. I have three Lyman STS scopes and I can't see any difference in them and the two Unertls I have. I bought A very heavy barreled Winchester 52 once just to get the Unertl one inch scope on it. I sold the rifle and kept the scope and I have never used it but I was shocked, shocked I tell you when I saw one at gun show for fourteen hundred dollars. I have a one inch Tasco 6-18 power that uses the same type mounts and bases and it has optics that are second to none. One way to look at it, if you want and old style Lyman or Unertl is, you can't buy a new one.

Payed 1400.00 for a .22 lowall with a Unertl 1 1/4 scope. Sold the rifle for 1000.00.

Still have my 14 power Unertl. Paid 188.00 for it new.

Inflation is killing us and this country, for sure. Don't think we've seen anything yet.

It's a lot more than inflation for the Unertl. In 1974, the STS sold for $145 and the Target 1 1/2" Unertl sold for $121 only the 2" ($168) and the 1" Programer ($222) sold for more than the STS. You can by a Target Spot or a STS for 1/2 to 2/3's the price of a 1 1/4 - 1 1/2 Unertl. I think the 2" Target and programer made the Unertl name but, all the rest of the line, benefited from it.

That 1 1/4 Target Unertl sold for $104 in '74. Inflation says that a STS should sell for $1255 if the 1 1/4 Unertl sells for $900.

It's a matter of supply and demand, not whether the Unertls are any better than the Lymans. For some reason the Unertls command higher prices. This past year I sold two 8x  1 1/4" Unertls on e-pay, both in very good condition. One sold for $997 and the other for $1135. I put them out there and it was like a feeding frenzy. I paid $185 for one and $200 for the other, 7-8 years ago. I think these scopes likely ended up on '03 Springfields, as clone sniper rifles.

Yes and the same reason that the Winchester A5's sell for so much. Not to mention the Lyman Alaskan and 330 Weavers.

They do indeed...to "collectors" who don't seem to own Brophy's or Campbell's '03 books, which describe military usage of A5s in exhaustive detail.  The Army's ONLY officially-issued scope was the Warner-Swazey.  The relatively few A5s that might legitimately be called sniper-scopes were those issued to USMC in mounts modified to accept Mann-Neidner blocks.  I've had two sets of these mounts, one of which I wish I'd kept as a conversation piece, but I greedily succumbed to the lure of easy money by selling them on ebay--close to $1000 each.  Attach "sniper" to anything you're selling, however unfounded the claim, & watch the bidding go crazy; sniper-nuts buy, they don't read.  (Can they?)

Seems to me that Unertls always commanded a higher price. Thinking back to 30 years ago, I remember a  Shooter showing up at the range with a . 22 LR M1885 sporting a Unertl that he mounted. Several shooters made comments like: "Look a Unertl", "Wish I could afford a Unertl",  "Where did you get that Unertl", "How much was the 'scope?", etc.

As for the question asked, I do not think I would pay $900.00. But then again, I thought I would never pay over $1.00 a gallon for unleaded gasoline....
