Larry,

Here are the dimensions starting at the breech:

.745" tenon prior to threads; this is close to minor diameter of threads.
.80" 20 V tpi threaded portion
.80" nominal unthreaded portion
Overall nominal length of barrel tenon is 1.575"; adjust as needed to headspace correctly.

These are dimensions from DeHaas' book Single Shot Rifle and Actions.  I've found them to be pretty good.

Dave's dims are pretty good but they can vary from one action to another. If you are threading from scratch I always go a tad oversize and try fit the action till you get a good no slop but not tight fit. Hope this helps.

Dave,
I've got the same book and can't find the dimensions listed.  Is there more than one version of de Haas' Single Shot Rifles and Actions book?   Mine says 1969.

Wayne,

My book is "69" also, and the Barrel Shank Specifications section begins on page 323 going thru page 334.
Hopefully you didn't pick your copy up used, and after someone decided to remove the pages to save them for their reference files.

BP,

Thanks.  My copy is used but the info is there.  I was looking in the chapter on Stevens #44 and did not realize the info is in the Appendix.  Obviously I'm not real familiar with the book.

BTW, in the illustration of the shank, I see de Haas forgot to add the dotted outline of the hole for the take-down screw

Wayne,

Good catch on the missing hidden line detail for the barrel screw seat. There are some other blurbs scattered here and there, but all books have errors. It's a good reference to have on the shelf.
