Maynard markings

Here is something that might or might not be of interest but maybe someone can shed some light on it.

I cleaned up my Maynard project stock yesterday. It looked solid but really grubby so I sprayed it down with oven cleaner and scrubbed the heck out of it with steel wool; that took what finish was left and the crud off and the lye left the wood with a nice dark color. I then steamed the dents out and gave it a light sanding with 280 and then more steel wool, followed with a couple coats of oil. Came out great.
On the right side, stamped in the wood, just back of the receiver is the letter E and again on the right side just in front of the but plate the same E; on the bottom of the stock just behind the lower tang are the letters F.F.P. The stock appears original to the receiver as everything has the same serial number. I also believe  this receiver was never military. What are these letters, inspector  marks?

The letter "E" will refer to the original drawings submitted for patent, and should reference part"E" or drawing "E" of the part stamped. Like an old colt, has a bunch of letters stamped on the various parts that show with drawing to refer to. Thanks, mh
