a really handy spacing is 9.6" giving .1875 minute/click. so 2 clicks = .375 minutes, aka 1 ring on the German target.

The math for this is simple, you divide the the distance that you want to shoot (in inches) into the block spacing. i. e. spacing = 7.2", 100 yd = 3600", 7.2/3600 = .002", .002 = 1" @ 100 yards, Lyman STS & Unertl are .0005" per click, 4 clicks = .002" or 1 click = 1/4" @ 100 yards.

1.0472 = 1 min. @ 100 yards

BTW, the 7.2 spacing = 1" @ 100 yards, not 1 min.

6.875 spacing = 1 min. @ 100 yards.

I hate to put my ignorance on public display, but how is the spacing measured?

Center to center of bases. So it doesn't matter if one base has a wider spaced mounting screw or not. You simply use the point where the scope mount clamps to as center.
