Here's two photos of Rolling Block No1. Sporters I just bought in 45-70 and 44-77. I'll post more when I clean them up.  Smiley

Nice! Bottom one appears to be a SST RB!
What is inscribed on the inlay on the top gun?

Marlin Guy, yup it is a single set trigger and supposedly it works fine. I'll have it next week. The other rifle, I don't have yet either, but it is a 44-77 and the inlay says something about Happy Birthday, a name and the date 1879. When I get the particulars I will tell you. The seller told me what it said, but I am a little dumb sometimes or maybe all the time

Good grief your not dumb, you are really lucky to have picked up 3 really nice original rollers and one with a single set trigger too.
Thanks for sharing the pictures.

Set trigger Rollers are pretty scarce, but I'm intrigued by old guns with presentation plates done in the period.
I've got an old Ballard #3 Gallery that has a presentation plate. It is inscribed as a gift to "Lt Charles Phillps, from the men of 4th Maine Artillery". After some research I found Lt. Phillips graduated from West Point in 1883, 13th in his class, and was promoted to Capt. while working as an advisor to the 4th. Maine. He went on to retire as a Brigadier General after WWI.
Giving an engraved rifle as a gift is definitely more of an 1800's thing, and very neat to find!

Real nice rifles.

Interesting that one is a high wall and one a low wall.  Wonder what the serial number difference is in them?

Dave, it seems to me the high side actions are also high serial numbers, I'm curious if you have any reference or data? Also I've always wondered if serial numbers were seperate for sporting rifles, target rifles, carbines & shotguns or were all #1's lumped in the same +/- 12,000 and were #1-1/2's in there to? Uechi, congradulations, nice rifles

The only data I have is I presently own 3 high wall rolling blocks 10,200, 11,600 and 12,200 serial # range.

The shotgun tangs are marked differently, the loose tang I have is 3300 range.  I also have a 50 cal sporter rifle that I'm pretty sure started life as a sporter shotgun that is in the 200 range.

The two I have are both "low", one in 3700's, one in 7700's.

The 44-77 is in the 3000 serial number range. The 45-70 is in the 8000 serial number range. You guys have me at a loss I don't know what a high wall or low wall Rolling Block is.

Look at the photos of your receivers...the side walls of the actions below the step come up higher in relation to the side flat of the barrel on one than the other.

OK Now I understand what you mean by High Wall and Low Wall. Marcot's books calls them Deep and Shallow Receiver Rebate.
