OK group, I just thought I'd pass along what made "Trapdoor Dick" well, just what the name says. It is the first TD I converted, sporterized or whatever you want to call it. Anyhow, it is a trapdoor NW Trade Gun. I was building North West Guns for North Star Enterprises. I had a few TD's on hand and guess I just got carried away. Here we go. None are really good pix, but you'll get the idea.

Dick, while looking through dixie gun works parts list for the peabody it was noted that a lot of parts in the lock, bridle,sear were common to both the peabody, trapdoor, and sharps rifles. You ever notice this?. Take a look for your self. When you get to the antique parts headed type in peabody and while the list is small they show a commonality to all three rifles. Frank

Yeh, Dick had to give us the pleasure of bring his wares to the WInter Gathering I was doing in Virginia and TORTURE me!! They look even better in person and handle very well. Extremely nice pieces. Thanks for posting the pics, Dick!

I've got an original condition 1884, but looking at these pics has given me the excuse to look out for cheap cut-downs. It's beautiful!

Thanks Guys. I thing I've discovered, and this may help you Gunluvver, is TD's seem to lend themselves to so many style differences. From this one to Scheutzens, to longrifles to Gemmer/Hawkens to just simple sporterizing.

Nice job on the NW gun.  I like what you have done with the various conversion and enjoy seeing them when you post.  You did an English Sporter, didn't you?

You're right Strawhat. It was not only an English sporter, it was a simulated "FLINTLOCK. That one was a project. The TD thumblatch laid very nicely in the pan. 
split the frizzen , which sorta hid the "hump" of the breech block. It wasn't until the 5th show display that somebody looked close enough to see the flintlock was bogus.It was a beautiful walnut with English style carving.
