Hi-wall set trigger question
Dec 8th, 2010 at 8:28am
Print Post
I have a flat spring Hi-wall with double set triggers.  They function just fine except the front trigger (the light one) has quite a lot of creep or
take up in it, before it fires the shot.  Is there a way to reduce this?
I haven't touched the adjustment screw because I am not familiar with
how this trigger functions.

Thank you for any advice given!

It's fairly easy to use the screw for adjusting the triggers.  It sounds like the one on your rifle is adjusted out too far.  With the hammer down, set the rear trigger and then adjust the screw inward until the front trigger releases.  Then back the screw out about one quarter turn.  This should be very close and you can make minor adjustments from there.  If after you have it adjusted, and the screw moves on its own, use a dab of clear finger nail polish or blue loctite to hold it from moving.

Is this problem with double set triggers corrected the same way on a percussion rifle? Thanks for your answer, Hank

You want to be careful on these older rifles as the screw is sometimes frozen in place. Oil it first then easily try to turn it. They are pretty fragile and break easy. Be cautious But when you have it set correctly one is hard pressed to beat double set triggers. They are addictive.

FWIW, Purple loctite for adjustment screws (as recommended earlier here) is the best thing since sliced bread. Sort of like a screw in bubble gum.  Almost don't use blue any more. Got it from a Fastenal store and they had to order it.

For that matter  a drop of the thin CA glue from the model airplane store works well to.  Just be sure to put the drop on with the trigger out of the stock as it's RUNNY.  It WILL glue your trigger into the stock, don't ask me how I know.

Hold Center, listen to the cautions here. That screw is an O-80. It's major diameter is .060 I believe. Try to turn it gently with a Jewlers screw driver. FITZ. Smiley
