I brought home a 12.8 lb, 33" octagon barrel today in .45 cal made by Ken Briesen. Can anyone give me any info on him? I don't know when the barrel was made.

If that barrel is a Ken Briesen barrel is is a good one. Ken is from Western NY and was a sought after barrel maker. I can remember going to Friendshp to visit with Ken and Bass on the slug gun line. Ken was trying to retire from barrel making. He would announce the was retired and over the day 3 or 4 guys would come up ans say I know that you are retired but could you make me one more barrel? He would relent and drliver the one more barrels and sure enough some one else would turn up for one more barrel. It took him 3 years as I recall to retire.

A couple years ago at on of Frogs matches, some one, I think ledball, was telling how this lead to several claims to owning Ken's "last barrel he ever made".

I was able to go through Dixie Gun works last month. In there used guns a real nice Ken Briesen underhamer slug gun.  Drolled over it but don't need another sport.  Nearly 50 years ago used to shoot a H&A Numrich underhammer in our local muzzleloader matches. All I could afford on a paper route.  Always partial to the underhammers.

Anything Ken made was first class. I did slug guns for a few years and most of the guys here in Oregon had at least one of his barrels. I didn't though Sad But, I was lucky enough to get maybe the last 44 1/2 he made in 1986 before CPA started making and selling his 44 1/2.

Most of Kens barrels are stamped with his name, a barrel number, date, and calber. I have one in .338 that i super accurate and one in 40, the 338 is marked but the 40 is not as I purchased it as a round blank from a good friend who had ordered 10 blanks from Ken a long time ago. This 40 was his last one in stock, but like everyone is saying maybe not Kens last one. They are very well made, as are other custom barrel makers such as Darr. Barry Dar made greta barrels to.
