Does anybody know of a barrel maker that makes a full or half octagonal rifled 12 bore barrel.

Let’s see, that would be .729 bore diameter, and a round ball of that diameter would weigh 1/12th of a pound, and since there are 7,000 grains to the avoirdupois pound, that round ball would weigh about 583 grains. Do you want it gain twist?

cotton reel paradox style projectile 750 grain with wheel weights, both my Greeners have a bore of .728.5, my brothers double paradox 12 bore both barrels are .735 dia, so I am looking somewhere around .730 as far as a gain twist I don't really know I have not given that much thought.

I have a 72 cal. rifled octagon barrel for a muzzle loader. will need to check groove diameter. Don't know who the maker is, took it in on trade. It is new.

ssdave, I'm looking for a barrel in the size you have but with a twist around 1 in 36. I got this idea of making a 97 Winchester into a 70-150.

Talk to Joe Williams at Oregon Gun Works. They have a web site.

ssdave,
Strange that someone ells would have the same idea. I did have an 87 for a while but money got tight and it went down the road. I have several 97s that are in various stages of disrepair. I should just go ahead and make a barrel but that would involve making a reamer and cutter box for the rifling machine, and that takes time which I don't seem to have a lot of. Maybe I should make two barrels as there is an old break open shotgun in the shop that is missing the barrel.

John,

That's why I had matching cylinder bore chokes made for my 10ga side-by-side.  Now to make the 2 to 2-1/2oz slug mould.   Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

There are a lot of high quality 12 ga. slug barrels available could you use one as a liner? Model 12 trench gun is an awsome weapon when loaded with slugs

While not a 12 ga, I thought you boys might be interested in seeing this little gem. It's a Husqvarna Model 4 in 20 ga with a rifled barrel. The Rolling block action features twin extractors and the 31.5" oct barrel has a 1 in 72" twist (bore - .620 & groove - .662). Three leaf sights marked for 60, 120 & 180 (m ?). The rifle was in new condition when I found it and has a nice walnut shotgun butt.

What's interesting is that while the barrel is marked 15.4 mm (20 ga) the shortened 20 ga brass case (1.84") is a slip fit for a .662 ball (16 ga). I shoot a modified conical (a bored out Lyman .662 RB) with 2 1/2 drams (approx. 75 gr) of Goex FFg. It is quite accurate with both the RB & conical out to 100 yds and is a FUN rifle to hunt with.

From an old catalogue.....here's the original 20 ga cartridge likely used in these rifled shotguns.

Back in the 60's I had purchased a bunch of .577 NE brass and had the idea of puttuin it on a Sharps rifle. At the time one could pick them up at $200 to $400 for a good one. As I could not find a barrel with the appropriate twist I gave up on the project.  Cry

Hummm maybe I'll try a replica Sharps and try this again. Could be interesting....   Don    rustyrelx
