Homemade Aydt Sears....

My latest restoration effort has been the creation of the missing sear for my Aydt project rifle. As posted before, I had to make two trigger levers to get the trigger group working. Once that was done I could start work on the sear. Luckily, I had two sears: one original, and one reproduction, on loan from a friend so I had somewhere to begin. In the picture below you can see the original on the upper left, the reproduction on the upper right, and the two different ones that I made before getting it right. It turned out that I needed a longer sear than I expected so the bottom right sear is the one in the rifle now. I'll post pics of the process if anyone is interested.

Pretty nifty how the spring is dovetailed into the sear on the original.

Yes that really is interesting. I didn't attempt that simply due to the size of the stock that I used to make the new spring. I have an extra sear and thought that I may try to dovetail a new spring sometime in the future when I had nothing else to do. I'm sure that the reason for the original dovetail is tradition. They obviously had screws and it would be easy to simply use one to attach a stamped spring, but we don't collect German firearms because they did things the easy way.
