Savage 219 - Peep Sight?

Print Post
Hi all.  i just purchased a pre-war Savage 219 in 25-20.  ran it yesterday with some factory 86gr loads.  Shows potential and heaps of fun, but the buckhorn sights are diabolical.  does anyone have one that they've mounted a peep sight to?  What sight did you use? Williams and Lyman don't list the 219 at all (not surprising).  I'm assuming that i'll have to drill and tap the reciver sidewall, but with the concealed hammer set-up it will be limited as to where i can mount the plate.

many thanks, jason.

Never saw one with a peep sight but I am sure that somone made them in the day. Mine has a period weaver scope on it that was on it when the guy I bought it from bought it used in the '50's. Where did you ever find one in .25-20? I looked for one for years and finaly gave up! Sold all of mine except for the .22 Hornet with the scope.

If you have Unertl scope bases on your rifle you can mount a current production Lyman or Williams peep sight to the rear scope base with an adapter from Brownells, #080-000-360.  check it out at (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links).

A peep that would attach to the top of the barrel would be better than drilling the side of the receiver. I think.

Many years ago I had one of these with a barrel mounted peep sight , I think the sight came off a Savage model 19 , a 22 target rifle.

Brownells has a couple sights that would screw to the top of the barrel;
Williams WGRS-HR (aluminum) and the Marble #20 (steel). The Marble can be had for a 1" barrel and the contour would have to be opened up to 1.15" to fit the 219.
