Looking for Information on John Oberlies

I just purchased a few guns that had been modified by John Oberlies from Dayton OH.  The guns were modified by him in the 20's.  I was just looking for more information about him and his work.
Thank you for your time.

Just maybe what he has to say is not good and would not be aloud to say it on this Forum!

I doubt many people would have much to say about Oberlies that could be derogatory. He was a fine custom gunsmith who built some very nice sporting rifles. I've seen a few old Oberlies customs built on single shot rifles that were extremely well done. Other than that I know little of him.

I don't think it's anything negative about Oberlies.

As MP is a fine author who has published one book on old gunsmiths, maybe the information is part of a new book. You guys always want everything instantly and for free. Let the man earn.

The information I have is second hand but should be true.  John Oberlies had his shop in an alley a couple of blocks from where I grew up in east Dayton, OH.  My Dad and his hunting partner were well acquainted with him.
I was told that John had customers come to him from England.  I had always assumed that he built new weapons but doing a little research today I find out that he also did work other than that.
I have a 30-06 that he built and I was wondering if anyone would hazard a quess as to the value of that rifle.  It has a very nice walnut stock with silver inlays, knurled bolt knob, some engraving.  Overall the rifle is in excellant condition.  Thanks, Long Shot.
