A while ago I talked about two Peabody Martini What Cheer rifles I aquired, and I got alot of good advise and council .I cleaned them up really nice and a gentleman in VA who collects them got them, however The third gun I aquired at the same time  from the same "attic"was a H=H .360 cal rifle .I had cartridges made for it and one is visible in the pics off the link I am including. It is .366 cal.Has anyone seen a H=H similar to this one and is it a particularly colectable gun.I will be shooting it in the near future after I decide the powder load .I had 277 grain lead bullets with gas caps made for it.! Fairly typical English "Deer park" rifle--presumably in .360 express.
Look at the proof marks: many of these rifles were retailed by famous London gun makers but made on contract in Birminham. If the marks are London, then Hollands may have made it, if Birmingham it could have been made by several different firms for Hollands.
Very collectable here in the UK where the price is elevated by the fact that it does not need any form of licence unless the owner wants to make ammo and shoot it!
Fred.

Hi Fred,
could you expand a little more on owning a cartridge rifle in the UK without a licence, is this a fairly new law? Regards, Roly.

It isn't just rifles. If you search--and it is quite a search-- the UK Home Office web site (no, I can't remember the URL), you will find a list of obselete calibres.
Briefly: It must be manufactured before 1939.
All such muzzle loaders can be held as curios without licence.
All rimfires, except .22 and , I think 9mm are also OK.
There is a huge list of centrefire calibreswhich are OK--including 23-40 and 8.15 x 46R..
For modern arms and those older calibres which which are still in common use--that is, commercial ammunition is available, you need to have a variation to purchase or aquire on your Firearms Certificate. This means, if you are a hundred miles from home at a gun show and you see something desirable, you can agree to purchase it but not pick it up unless you have the said variation.
I normally shoot obselete calibres: 11.7 x 51.6R Danish, .577-45, .310 cadet etc and for these you can pick them up any time. Before you make any ammunition, you write in to the local police force and "put the gun on-ticket" along with the authority to possess the necessary ammo.
Antique guns cause very ,very few problems in the UK and so the police are understanding and cooperative.
Hope this helps.
Fred

Very nice.  Well, Richard, when you decide to pass this one along, give me a shout. I shoot a .360 BPE in a miniature Martini. Yours would make a nice companion.
