German Translation

Is there anyone on the forum who speaks German well enough to transulate a few documents? What I have is an old history of several Schuetzen Clubs in California from the turn of the last century which is written in German.

I should have explained more throughly, this is a project that Rudi and I are working on for the ASSRA archives. Since I'm interested in the history of schuetzen clubs here in California, Rudi sent me a package of documents pertaining to schuetzen matches and some of the many "Turnverein - Schützen Sections." I have been carefully scanning the docs and putting them on CDs, however this is a very slow process. Eventually, the archive should be transcribed to CD form so that the information can be stored and shared more efficently, but it's a very big job.

Schutzenbob;

If you're interested in another Californian to assist with some scanning, feel free to drop me a PM or email...
I know a bit of German.. but probably too little any more to be of much use on that score.

Just a thought,  Why not have Rudi contact a few of our German members and get some translations?

Would that work?

Just a thought...there are some internet sites that will do translations.  I believe you'll have to cut/paste the document in, and the software will then translate it for you.  It may not be a perfect translation, but should be close enough that you can clean up anything that is lost in the context of the document.

I'll check around and see if I can find one, and post a link.

Jim,

I'll give Rudi a call later today, he might know a willing member.

Gary,

Yes, I've been using one of the translation sites, however they translate word for word, and since English and German grammer are so different you're often left scratching your head. What I need is someone who's fluent in both languages. As an example, I get sentences like; "There it except many praising of acquired also on occasion." hmmmm?
