intro rifle

One of my friends wants to get started in shooting, and asked me for a recommendation as to a rifle to buy. I suggested a .22 rimfire, problem is he is a lefty and a bolt action is not going to work. He was going to buy a left handed bolt gun and I suggested a single shot like a  rolling block or Stevens.  I am unable to find information as to who is making replica rolling blocks or stevens rifles in .22 LR, can anyone help me out? Thanks! Joe S

They aren't single shots but my all time favorite .22 is a Marlin 39A Lever. Still made of walnut wood and forged steel. Man sized rifle too! Cool

At the risk of being burned as a heretic...
I strongly suggest a CZ-452 American Left Hand bolt action .22 as a First Rifle.
Excellent quality, full adult sized .22 rifle, and as of the past 6 months or so, they can be had with the bolt on the correct side!

Now, as for single shots...
The (Stevens) Favorite is being made by Savage Arms.. though they do not quite have the look of quality that the older ones did... in my opinion.

Does my memory fail me? or did Ruger at least at one time make the #1 in .22LR?

It shouldn't be TOO hard to find a #4 Rolling Block in .22LR, although the few I've seen since I started looking at them seldom seem to have good bores.

Last single shot suggestion would be a 12/15 Martini.  Thad Scott Fine Guns usually has quite a few. MT Guns (Mac Tilton) has them a lot also. There's another guy that has them regularly also, but I can't remember his name right now.

Hope this helps!

Jon Appleton is his name.

I bought a MK II International and a 12/15 from Jon.  Jon is as honest as the day is long. He has quality firearms and won't sell you junk.
When my rifles came, their condition was better than what Jon had described. They look good and shoot great.

THAT's the guy!

12/15's are nice, but a MkII or MKIII International (and some of them ARE in left handed), would be an excellent choice.
The 12/15's are lighter in weight, and more versatile.. whereas the Internationals are a heavier target gun.  The 12/15's are ambidextrous, but the Internationals a bit less so (but as I said, they do come in Left Handed).

Another single shot is the T/C Contender or G2. Can be had in rimfire or another barrel can be purchased in centerfire. The guns change from RF to CF without tools. The newer G2 has a slightly heavier & longer barrel which I like. Otherwise the gun is fine for lefties.
