How does one pronounce Winder? as in a cold wind or to wind the clock. Thanks.

Some use a long i as in "I wind the watch", while others use the short i as in "It's windy today". I learned as a child, and also have read in several places, that the short i is correct as in a windy day. Actually only the man himself could give us the correct pronunciation of his own name, he could spell it XYZ and call himself Smith if he wanted.

Also it's my strong impression that only the third model muskets in 22S with the Lyman receiver sight can be correctly called Winders since he didn't design or specify any high wall receiver, only the low wall style with the Lyman sight.
JMOFWIW, good luck, Joe

From what I have read, the man's name was Winder as in moving air.

Mr. Steele is (no surprise here) correct, only the "low wall" model is a Winder, although they came in LR as well as short. There were both military and commercial models made.  Winchester avoided the whole pronounciation thing by labeling it the Mod. 87.
