Nice Hiwall!!   Looks like it might have some nice wood on it too. What caliber is it? Ive got a ballard thats had the sides of the breechblock jeweled, it really looks nice. Also have a hammerless Sharps with breechblock jeweled It looks better than the ballard. Are you going to sell the hiwall?   Joe.

boilded linseed oil will dry and can be thinned wih jap dryer to speed it up also called lock varnish to protect color case ect. this stuff is  good for loose fits tight fits and crazy fits,will protect raw steel. the hw is ugly. thanks ben.

Ben, we must be looking at different hiwalls.  Can you post a full size picture of the rifle?  If you dont like the jeweling on the sides of the frame, it can be removed easy enough. I have a ballard gallery rifle with Parkenfarker engraving. Much harder to remove than the jeweling on your rifle.    Joe.

I had a friend that bought a Stevens 44 action that had AWFUL "engraving" on it. We stripped the action, put it on a belt sander and sanded it level. Then, he used several different grits of sandpaper backed by plate glass and ended up with a VERY nice Stevens 44 .22 rimfire.
