Dave:

Heck, I'll double the editor's offer. That is a really nice looking rifle.

Glenn, lets combine our bids,  we can work out a joint custody arrangement for the gun

Dave, heck, I'd even double HST's bid...what's the stock/barrel configuration?...looks more like a stalking rifle than a target job from what I can tell from the pictures.

This is a very nice Buchel Meister, my guess on value going by prices I see at the OGCA $1600. to $2500. and probably closer to the latter.   leadball

I have to agree with Greg- probably a stalking rifle.
Sight setup is wrong for a schuetzen. Still a nice piece tho'!

those stalking rifles are really kind of cool.  I traded for one last summer at EG that was in a partial state of resto-modification. nice old germanswiss breakopen.  forend was long gone but WV had worked up a basic mechanism that will do the job.  cleaned it up externally and then turned it over to Steve Durren to finish the metal work, as he has time, and scrounged a scrap of nice dense dark bastogne from Glenn that I hope will match the butt reasonably well. its chambered for one of those big old bottleshaped mauser rimmed cartridges  somewhere between 40 and 45 cal.  It'll be fun to take it deer hunting some day.
If we could dig up a few more of'em we could set up a fun match for'em at EG.  I'd volunteerr one of my deer archery targets--and put it on wheels-- if keith will pull it across the range for us--as a running deer target--or a running Keith target Grin

Naw-w-w, since Keith got both hips replaced you probably will not be able to swing fast enough. He'll just flat be too fast for you Grin.

Since this is a stalking rifle, my guess is that mortice on the tang is for a safety that's missing. You also mentioned you thought it was a .32 Special. Could it be a 8.15x46R? This caliber was very common even in stalking rifles. All in all this is a very beautiful rifle and the kind I drool over at the gun shows.

The mortise shown on the tang is not the mortise of the regular Buchel Meister--this is good= now you don't have to chase down one of those $4oo + original type sights.  leadball

just save the money and pay a good smith to make you a tang safety for that slot
