2520 is correct; They used a newly made Borchardt type
action and the high polish blue and stock finnish characterisic of a Weatherby. They didn't sell well. The type of shooter
that wanted a sporter in the offered calibers didn't want a
single shot - The type of shooter that wants a Borchardt as
a single shot does not want the offered calibers.........
Another brilliant marketing plan by an American manufacturer.
As I recall, Borchardt actions were availiable from Artistic
Arms for 1/3 the price.......  There  was one  on Auction Arms
a month ago - but I don't know what it went for...

Saw one advertised at a gun show in Puyalup Washington a month ago. The price (If I remember right) was around $6,000.  I saw one several years ago in 222 Rem.

In the early 1970's I attended college and worked at a sporting goods store in Long Beach, California. We sold two of the Colt-Sharps rifles, one was a 30-1906, the other was a 270. The rifles were actually made by a company named "Sharps Rifle Co." ,not to be confused with the original, which was later bought out by Colt which then assembled and finished the guns from parts on hand. At the time, I thought the actions were a bit clumsy and that the maker would have better served to have copied the original Borchardt design rather than try to improve on it. I never shot one of Colt-Sharps rifles, who knows, they might be good guns.

I believe the downfall for these things was their price.  Way back when they first came out, I was fascinated by them and wanted one in the very worst way. Unfortunately I also had a young family to feed. At the time, single shots were beinning to catch on a bit.  Ruger's No. 1 had been on the market for several years and was selling well, Browning was marketing their 78.  That is when Colt decided to get into the frey. At that time the Ruger could be had for around $265.00 and the Browning for about four. As I remember Colt was trying to get something in the range of $850.00. 
     Oh, by the way, I saw mentioned that there were 502 Colt/Sharps built.  The .222 that I saw, in private hands, several years ago was a toolroom model and did not have a seriel number, the only markings anywhere on it was the caliber on the barrel. I guess that would make it number 503. Sure wish I had bought that rifle, it was for sale for a price that makes me cry now.

At least one brand new action still exsists. 

I took a tour of the Shilen Rifles, Inc. facility in Ennis, Texas last month and had the chance to meet Ed Shilen and the new owners. Ed got two Colt Sharps actions from Colt. He built one into a 22-250 beauty and the other action is still in the white. The varmit rifle was for sale but I don't know the price.

By the way if you are ever in or around Ennis, TX I would strongly recomend you call and take a tour as well.
