Does anyone shoot an Aydt?  Mine has a broken mainspring and I want to have a replacement or repair fabricated.  It looks as if only the upper leaf spring is broken.  Can this be replaced or maybe even welded?

I have in the past made quite a few of these for Aydt Rifles. The Machining is not much of a job. It is a tapered spring with a dolls head on one end. The real trick is properly heat treating it and afterwards grinding or belt sanding it to a nice taper without getting it too hot so the the heat treatment is affected. I doubt very much if your original one can be welded. The welding temperatures will most likely ruin the heat treatment that gave it it's spring quality's. If you know a machinist ask him if he can make you one from 17-4 PH stainless steel. The heat treat is one hour at 900 Degrees Farenhieght. And then let it air cool. I have taken to making springs from this material because the heat treatment is so uncomplicated. FITZ.
