Ballard Breech seater

I've been experimenting with other configurations, I did a brief post some time back on another style.  That one bit me at a shoot this fall and failed to work.  I've since made some changes to it and it's working fine now - but another backup is nice to have.  Bnice shared parts and pieces and sent me slip sliding down another slope, here's a few pics of the next design...

Here's a few more pics.  It fits around the tang sight, and it's down to needing some screws made and a wooden handle.  Thanks for the shove Bob.

Your first endeaver may have been patterned off of this Ballard Breech Seater , very simple, compact, but a "Beach" to make i imagine. I was able to aquire this off A member afew years ago.

I really like this one I made patterned after one Russ Hooks has.  Obviously requires some custom fitting of the over receiver hook that is secured using the rear scope mount holes.

Here's a Ballard breech seater design that clears both scope and tang sight. I've been using it for years.

I have one of those as well.  They do work well.  I have to reach under the action and hold the hook in place or it pops out. I think that is related to it hiring the tang sight base.

Yup, I've made a couple of those also.

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

I also built a few of those too. I got 5 or 6 of those brass hooks from someone here on ASSRA decades ago and made up a few, and gave some hooks to friends to make their own.

Added a link to keep it in one piece. Would probably work with the claw.
