I was envious of that stock, Joe.  It would be great on my #5 project that I purchased from you a while back.

Bought a gun/reloading estate today, and there were two spectacular blanks in it!  The walnut didn't photograph very well, but has some very nice grain to it!

Had to scrape off the wax and sand it a bit to see what the grain will look like.  Usually on walnut, have to work to get it dark enough.  I put some turpentine on this one on one side, and it got very dark.  I don't think I'll be adding a dark finish to it.

Best of all, it's almost 2-3/4" thick.

If you could find one it looks like the Albright would be about right and it has a trap. I measured the one I have on a rifle and it is a very nice plate. Of course, it went on that stock about 50 years ago but I see that Numrich listed them until recently (says out of stock) for "only" $125. Too bad the plate CPA lists for $35 is only 5 inches high. It's not nearly as nice as the Albright, though.
