1885 High Wall

Bought it as a 25-20 WCF with a bad barrel. Bought a unturned blank 1-10 and turned it to match old barrel. Machined and hand formed a front base for the sight. Color case hardened the action.

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

Rear sight is original on first two generations of winder muskets. I think it was from the Krag rifle.

First, nice job on your high wall musket.  I especially like that you duplicated the original musket front sight base so closely.
Two questions;  is that early enough to be a leaf spring action or was it a Second Model (coil spring) Musket?  Also, what is your new chambering?  I have two 25-20s now, a coil spring high wall sporter and a leaf spring low wall marked 25 WCF, but chambered from the factory in what we call now 25-20 SS.  Makes brass more challenging, but is otherwise fun and fine!

Just read there were only something like three Winder muskets produced in 25-20 WCF.  Could yours be one of those?

See this thread;  (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

Also, somewhere Bert wrote an article that list the serial numbers of the 25-20 Winders.

It is a rebore 22 with center fire parts in it. It is now a 25-20 WCF. I posted about another one I have in 25-20 Single Shot.  My 75 year old eyes do work  well with those iron sights.
