It is great for 357 and 44Mag full power loads.
but it also is very useful for rifle cast bullet loads such as 30-06, 308
Classic powder for 32-40 BMW

A very versatile powder. As beltfed said it's very good for heavily loaded magnum pistol with heavy bullets and also reduced cast bullet loads. It's also good for full power loads in smaller rifle cartridges such as the 25-20

Hodgdon’s description of IMR4227 calls it a pistol powder.

“IMR 4227 is a medium burn speed, magnum pistol propellant. If a pistol says Magnum, IMR 4227 is the choice for true magnum velocities and performance.

In rifles, this powder delivers excellent velocity and accuracy in such cartridges as the 22 Hornet and 221 Fireball.”
