Reworked breech seaters

Got these from bpjack. The threads were worn out and the nuts were stripped. Drilled and tapped to 1/4-28. One is for 32-40 and the other is for 33-40. Solid now. 

I always wanted seaters like these but I didn't know they were so dainty and delicate.

Wes, I remember reading an article about those seaters in black powder cartridge news years ago. Might have been written by Jim Foral. The article had a picture of an old Lyman ad showing them.Those seaters were designed to be used with the Chase patch method which was just one wrap of paper around the bullet and nothing on the base and the seater was used to slide the bullet into the chamber. Probably why they're not really built that solid.

I bought one like that from ebay a while back.  I think mine might be a repro.  They definitely work best with a bullet that doesn't need much seating force for sure.  I have another one that came with my Zischang highwall, but the case on it is a little buggered up and needs replacing.

I have a few of these old seating tools, but never have tried using them. I just like old gun tools so I buy them anytime I see them cheap.

I remember reading about chase patches and do use them when muzzle loading. Placing a chase patch in a breech seater with a bullet is a trick in itself. 

The old parts are perty well worn out and I could not match the old threads. Lyman like Ballard used their own size?
The seaters are stout now and no problem seating bullets with them. Hard oversize bullets, no way.
