Many of our single shot rifles have tapered wood screws securing the buttstock to the upper and lower tangs. This vibra tite product IMO is good for keeping those screws from loosening overtime. You apply this to the clean screws and let it set a couple minutes before running the screws in.

Blue Loctite actually works also, and breaks free without harming the wood. It holds just enough to keep screws from loosening. All the pistol gripped Rolling Block stocks used two wood screws through the tangs to retain their stocks.

I spent some years running a cabinet shop- I have used the 'toothpick' style for years before then on old cars with wooden interior fixings. I learned in the cabinet shop that just a tiny dab of white or yellow glue was plenty to take up the looseness and hold under any ordinary use while still being removeable.

A little SuperGlue into the screw hole. Degrease the screw.
Then run it into place,,do it FAST as the glue will set up quickly.
Don't hesitate turning the screw into place,,it can freeze up right there.
This a semi-permanent fix as if done right, normal screw driver work will not get that screw back out.
Touching the tip of an elect soldering gun to the screw head for a few seconds will melt the glue and the screw easily comes back out.

SG works the same on metal fasteners as a poor mans locktite.
Same conditions apply.

Likely not the fix most here will be looking for, but it does have its place,,somewhere.
