	On its way to me a rather unique high wall. Not sure which Pope did the barrel, heck I didn't even know the Vatican had a machine shop with a rifling machine. Go figure.

	Just don't tell anyone. Besides, I will be selling some rifles in the near future. All 22s. BECAUSE I bought another one of those too! They might be my wife's ancestors.

	Great rifle. Very unique transition on the barrel. I have seen octagon to round and wedding bands but never octagon to octagon. JMH

	You are welcome to come over to the Tacoma match. September 19th. One day this fall. Usually a two day match but 1/3 of our shooters (Rick Moritz) can’t make it. That gives me a slight better chance of coming in second.

	Thanks for the offer, I'm going the opposite direction for a three day match that weekend and it's 110 miles closer for me. Good luck with your match. I'll bet that Pope will bring your score up 25 pts in the offhand...

	I won’t have my grubby mitts on the rifle for a week or so I will keep the existing sights for a while but would like to see how it looks with more traditional ones which I have. I also have a sneaky plan to see if I can fit scope blocks by making a bracket that utilizes the Lyman sight screw holes at the rear connected to a 1/2” wide by 1/4” think steel bar held in the front by a very strong magnet. No mods to the rifle required

	I can visualize that sneaky plan. I wish you well with it and await your report. 'Twould be a crying shame and a criminal offense to drill holes in that barrel. You never know though it might surprise you with the current sights. Would that someone hadn't drilled for scope blocks on my Pope .32-40 High Wall, but there it is. I don't think Harry was drilling for Unertl blocks in 1896.

	Another alternative if the magnet idea doesn’t pan out is to make a custom forend with a bracket that extends over the top of the barrel forward of the attachment screw and secure the steel base to it. It all depends on whether I want to try shooting an any sight bench match with it if I drilled the barrel for scope blocks I would suffer the same fate as Joe Pesci did at the end of the movie Casino as ordered by mobster Wes Turner aka Joe the hammer.

	Yikes. You guys play for keeps out west there. Looking over your shoulders as much as looking through the sights? I kinda like your alternative idea, Jack. I laid awake last night pondering the concept of a magnet strong enough to withstand repeated recoil cycles without moving one iota. (Iotas, and half-iotas and quarter-iotas matter at 200 yards as well as thousandths and half-thousandths.) A magnet that strong poses real world issues in getting it located on the barrel precisely where you want it on the first attempt because moving it after the fact should be nigh impossible if it meats the iota criteria. Might consider an ally in the endeavor who would hold your belt from behind while you approach the barrel with said kryptonite super-duper magnet in hand, ready to lend a hand to help control the magnet from sucking you into an embarrassing position on your barrel.

	I think the forend idea is a better option. That will be way down the road. Many other rifles to play with for now. Iron sights it will be for a while. In the meantime I will keep an eye out for a cheap Lyman receiver sight that I can use to cannibalize the mounting bracket.

	Beautiful and very interesting rifle Jack! If your scope thing doesn't work you could always put a vernier soule tang sight on it and just shoot iron sights.

	Jack Your idea of using the existing holes to attach a scope mount should work.It's been successful on the Martini International. The original version only has an eight inch rail. I altered the design so that I could attach the front of the rail to an existing Unertl screw hole. At least for the 22 LR, I haven't seen any difference in accuracy. Otto

	Otto, I have an adapter like that for my Martini with a picatiny rail top. Vall I will have a tang sight on it right off but will shoot the Lyman as well.
