When loading lead bullets in a case with blackpowder and over powder wad what do prefer.
A flat base or bevel base bullet for accuracy and why?  Charlie

I don't think I've ever actually seen a bevel/boat tail mold, that may be lack of experience though. 

My understanding is that the flat base bullet provides the best gas seal to prevent cutting. For BP, you will need a wad, and i don't thjnk a flat wad would work well with a bullet base that was not flat

Charlie, are you talking about a bullet like the early Ideal 457132 Postell with its bevel base?

The old Winchester molds usually had a bevel on the base and of the pair I own for .32 caliber, one shoots very nicely in fixed/smokeless loads. The other one does not shoot well because the mold is in as good shape as the first. 
I don't think I ever saw a boattail mold, and would never take one home, or even gift bullets cast in one.

I have the Lee 250 grain 38-55 mold that has a bevel base.  All the custom molds I have are
flat base.  I wondered if it would be worth the trouble to set it up and make a flat base.

a few years ago a friend made a tool to bevel the base of two bullets, a 40 and a 32. these were flat base. The tool took a sliver from the edge of the base. It made the 40 easier to load in 40-65 .i tried it with the 32 but since i was breech seating it did not have an effect. some engineer may be able to tell us what effect it may have had.  easier to handle though.
