Will 2 screw .22 rings clamp on Unertl blocks securely enough to hold a 30 mm rifle scope with 45 mm objective in place on a .32-40?

I don't know about the Unertl blocks, but I have a Wyoming Armory 1885 in 32-40 and it came with a custom dovetail rail that used 22 rings like that.  They would move unless you screwed them down really tightly.   That was with a Leupold 24x benchrest scope.

Thanks, Chris, that's helpful.
I think I'll give up on cobbling something together with .22 rings.

Yes, works good.  Use the old Tasco World Class steel rings on mine.  Tried others, hard to get them clamped down to not slip.

Burris Signature rings 0n Weaver bases are virtually bomb proof.  Unertl Posa mount bases and rings will withstand modern cartridge recoil aka 300 magnum etc. Steve Earle may be able to help with those.

I used .22 rings on Unertl bases by drilling a hole side to side near the front of the rear base in the dovetail and fitting a steel pin to act as a recoil stop and placement stop.

Ive use them a lot but I either make or buy a stop clamp. I have used a longer front screw with a larger head than counter sink hole dia or a washer to act as a stop. Never been a problem for strength as a short scope is lighter than a long scope normally. Spacing can be an issue. I use longer bases to help. Also 3/8” rings not 11mm otherwise could cause cant of scope.
