Would You Buy NIB/Unopened Powder ? ? ? (SR4759)

Life goes on, and things change...

I'm getting more & more into keyboards with my rock band, just like I did back in my 20's (a very long time ago...) -- and because of this, the shooting sports and reloading are taking a back seat for me.  As a result, I might sell off my .38-55 High Wall, which means that...

--> I'd have 4 or 5 NIB and Unopened cans of SR4759 powder as surplus in my stores.  It was my late father's favorite powder for his (3) .38-55s, and I'd adopted it too.

Just checking, because I am curious...............

--> Would any of you buy such powder?

All the gun shops around here say to "Just dump it out on the ground as fertilizer".

Not that it matters much, but for the record, I'm a Life Member of the NRA and SAM (The Sportsman's Alliance of Maine) and of my 2 local gun clubs; so my word is good that the powder is new/unopened and has been properly stored.

I have a few unopened bottles stashed and I'm not about to dump it.

I would as soon dump it as I would vote for Mamdani for President. My advice: sell it while figuring out a way to physically move it. Not entirely impossible, that. (Hint: gasoline is relatively cheap and they make it every day whereas 4759 ain't. Plus, what's time to a pig?!)

It figures in some of my cartridges that other powders simply don't come close to. In fact I recently bought six cans of it from a considerable distance away and moved heaven & hell to get it here.

Were I where I could get it, I'd buy it in a heart beat.

Don't dump it.  properly stored it should last longer than most of the guys that use it.
To answer your  topic question -   yes I would and have.  I have 10# of 4759 or I would try to get it from you.

Dump it?? That’s ridiculous! You’re a member of two clubs. Surely someone there would buy it.

I'd be finding different gun shops.  They're obviously staffed by idiots

The local shops want to sell THEIR powder.  If your’s is dumped, it’s not competition.

Find a buyer. Word of mouth is powerful, it'll sell.

I bought a remaining 4#'s from a 12# can (older black metal can) about two years ago and I've been shooting it and then recently bought 3 - 8# cans (plastic) of nib unopened stuff, (it's all SR4759).  I live in an extremely dry climate 8-10% H, noticed very small differences between the two lots, just shot a match with it a couple weekends ago, Same-Same.  For reference, I've had to pay in excess of $70/pound for this, and that was among friends...

Unless it's getting sticky and clumped, smells sour, is emitting orange gases when opened or shows other evidence of decomposition, I'd buy any old stock powder if I could recognize it and wanted it.  I buy old and even partial cans of 4759 at gun shows whenever the price is right.

Kind of tough to check condition of old powder in unopened cans unless these guys are goofy enough to let you unseal them

Post a For-Sale notice on the bulletin boards at the 2 GunClubs you belong to.
Everyone is looking for powder at a price anywhere lower than recent retail. Plus 4759 is discontinued and many will buy any of it they can find.
Unopened containers is a very big deal and many would buy it that would not touch any containers that were already open or just partially filled.

Post a fair price and I'd bet it'll be gone.

Powder for sale doesn't last long on my Gun Club's for-sale board.
