Steven's 44 1/2 unknown serial and caliber (Read 1034 times)

	Recently picked this up with a lot. Looks to be rebarreld at some point as the barrel has no markings. Best I can guess without having the chamber cast is 32-40. The rec has no serial only a 47 as shown. Triggers are well done and seem to function great. The question is, sell or rebarrel someday to a littlw more common round. These really aren't my thing tbh. Anybody here able to help with either option?

	Serial numbers are generally on the lower tang, anything stamped there? 32-40 is a great caliber in a 44 1/2 imo. Many 44 1/2's were converted to varmit rifles, usually in a 22 centerfire. Along with Winchester highwalls and others.

I would confirm that is what it is chambered for and enjoy it as is. Reloading components and dies.are not plentiful but still available Flatlander

	44 1/2's were made approximately between 1903 to 1916.

Few 1911s, mausers and mix of firearms. Picked it up more to help them out than anything though they knew there were a few things ive been trying to get my hands on for 20 years. Sadly they came to me by way of loss of an old friend.

	It looks like there are possibly a couple of partially visible serial numbers on the lower tang,hard to tell from the picture. The buttstock looks original with possibly special order checkering and a shotgun buttplate ( Elk head.) The forend is possibly original, but it's likely a replacement with the round barrel. Nice rifle

	The lower tang/trigger group is probably not Stevens, the screw placement does not appear correct. At best it was modified by bubba. There is a model 47 that recently sold still in the classifieds you might take a look at. (You need to *Login* or *Register* to view media files and links)

	That was my thought, too. But, I was focusing on the shape of the triggers. They look thick compared to the originals. Might they be a CPA replacement?

Seen that one but that's a bit nice than this one for sure as far as pricing. Ill prob end up posting it for sale in the classifieds or maybe GB really not sure yet. Maybe it gets shelved for another couple decades and I let my grandsons deal with it. haha Appreciate the heads up.

I’d really have to look at just the triggers. But with the screw holes off center, the internals are probably different. Would need to see without the stock on.

	47 is the Model number in the Stevens catalog. The main feature was the loop lever. I think Model 47 applied to a rifle that left the factory with a loop lever. But I have a Model 47 with a 44 action in .25-20 SS and a non-loop lever that looks to be hand-modified.
