Steven's 44 1/2 unknown serial and caliber

Recently picked this up with a lot. 
Looks to be rebarreld at some point as the barrel has no markings. 
Best I can guess without having the chamber cast is 32-40.

The rec has no serial only a 47 as shown. Triggers are well done and seem to function great. 

The question is, sell or rebarrel someday to a littlw more common round. 
These really aren't my thing tbh.

Anybody here able to help with either option?

Serial numbers are generally on the lower tang, anything stamped there?
32-40 is a great caliber in a 44 1/2 imo.
Many 44 1/2's were converted to varmit rifles, usually in a 22 centerfire. 
Along with Winchester highwalls and others.

Nothing wrong with a 32-40. I would confirm that is what it is chambered for and enjoy it as is. Reloading components and dies.are not plentiful but still available

There is nothing on the tang or anywhere else besides what's pictured.

With no markings how would I go about dating or pricing for that matter? Just go off what I can see has sold on GB?

Agree. I will post up more photos once I figure a better way to take low res pics... size limit and all.

44 1/2's were made approximately between 1903 to 1916.

The lot was an estate of an old family friend. Few 1911s, mausers and mix of firearms. Picked it up more to help them out than anything though they knew there were a few things ive been trying to get my hands on for 20 years. Sadly they came to me by way of loss of an old friend.

It looks like there are possibly a couple of partially visible serial numbers on the lower tang,hard to tell from the picture. The buttstock looks original with possibly special order checkering and a shotgun buttplate ( Elk head.) The forend is possibly original, but it's likely a replacement with the round barrel.
