So I have this Uberti 1885 Hi Wall in 45-70.

The recoil is no longer enjoyable (never really was).
I have several 32 caliber barrels I've acquired over time as they were intended for this rifle.

Now I'm wondering if it would not be better to just reline vs. re barrel.
I am not a hands on DIY-er so I have to find a gun smith to do the work, I see that T.J.s liners are about $6.00 an inch. Plus a reline would negate some of the required work a new barrel would require like blueing etc.

Can anyone give me their opinion as to the approximate cost of relining including a new extractor vs. taking one of my rifle blanks, profiling same, fitting and finishing ..?

Any thoughts / input is appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Bob in Saint Augustine.

PS: I do have another Uberti Hi-Wall in 38-55 that can serve as the donor platform for one of the other 32 caliber blanks

I too have problems with recoil so several of my rifles have gone from 45-70 to 38-55.
I don't know what others are charging but I do most rifles at $575 for liner job.
